Best University for doing an LLB from Pakistan
Selecting a Law University for your higher studies is considered to be the most crucial step in law aspirants life. A University has the tendency to change your life, either in a good way or in a bad way. So, if you are a student who just cleared his or her intermediate or is about to complete college studies and looking for the best law university to continue your LLB then this article is for you.
In this article, we will discuss which institute you should select to continue your legal studies and what should be the basic criteria to shortlist the best Law University.
“The Law Academy” for the past 5 years has been training aspirants for Law and LAT. Our students are studying in different institutions all across Pakistan. So, every suggestion in this article will be based on the experience and reviews of our students.
Before going any further please keep in mind that there is no final list available by any institution that these law universities are best and these are not. For every student, the definition of the best law university may vary. For example, for a candidate who scored 800 in his matriculation and 900 marks in his intermediate, Punjab University Lahore is not the best university, though that university is on the number one ranking by any institution, etc. It is because he cannot be admitted to Punjab University.
So, for every student as per his circumstances, the definition of the best university varies.
The significant question that should come to your mind is the basic criteria to shortlist or select an institution. Following are the things that you should keep in mind while selecting a university for LLB.
Marks in Previous academic background.
Your marks play a crucial role in determining your institution. In Pakistan, the Public sector Universities admit students based on merit. That merit is calculated based on a certain formula. If a candidate comes on merit he or she will secure the seat at the public sector university otherwise he has to go for a private university. In this way, your academic score plays a vital role in selecting a good university for you.
Fee Affordability.
One of the most essential steps that are involved in the selection of your institute is fee affordability. When selecting an institution a candidate should be careful about the fee structure. Once you made a decision that you have to continue your studies in a certain university or a law college then you put two things at stake, one is the money and the other is your time.
Many students who don’t do enough research about the fee structure of an institution or the expenses that they are going to bear in these five years end up leaving the degree in between because of the affordability issues. So, be careful especially when you are selecting a private university or Law College that you have enough resources to continue these five years or your resources don’t allow you to consider the private institution.
Quality of Education.
Another important factor is the quality of education an institution is providing. It is the primary duty an institute performs. You may compromise on any other thing but the quality of legal education cannot be or should not be compromised. Before securing your seat in any public or private University providing legal education candidates must verify or search for reviews from the seniors about the quality of education that the institution is providing.
This element is directly proportional to the fee structure of law colleges of universities in the private sector. Those private institutions that are providing quality legal education are charging more in fees. Quality education is only cheap in Public sector universities. So one must aim for a public-sector university.
Location
Yes, while selecting an institute to continue your legal studies, your location does matter. Geographically Pakistan is divided into four provinces. Each province has some top public as well as private sector universities. Except for a few public sector universities students don’t need to travel from one province to another. I.e. for Punjab University, you may travel from Karachi or Hyderabad to Lahore. But in my point of view, students don’t need to travel from Karachi to Lahore for any private law college.
Students need to keep in mind that is it worth traveling that much distance keeping in mind the quality of education that the institution is providing or they need to settle for some local public or private sector university. LLB is a five-year degree program so you need to be very careful while traveling away from your hometown.
Reputation and Recognition.
Before securing your admission in any public or private sector university you must check the reputation and recognition of the institution. By reputation I mean the experience of the Alumni or by checking how many successful graduates in the field are produced by that institution. It will help you make your choice more clear. The second thing that you need to check is the recognition of the university by HEC.
There are certain universities that are not recognized by HEC for certain degree programs. You need to verify either that the university is recognized by the HEC for that particular degree program or is there any kind of objection by the HEC.
If we talk about Law Colleges, approximately all of them are affiliated with some recognized Universities. Before securing your admission in any law college you must confirm that the law college is affiliated with the university. You can confirm this fact from the university from which the law college is claiming affiliation or by demanding the affiliation later from that law college.
Conclusion.
In conclusion, I would say that the decision to select a law college or university should be based on the points mentioned above. There is no concrete definition that exists for a best law college or university. For everyone, the definition of the best Law University or college varies. By applying these standards you will be able to shortlist some best institutes for doing your LLB.
